The prize for the best traditional style Baguette in Paris (Grand Prix de la Baguette de Tradition Française de la Ville de Paris) was recently awarded to Pascal Barillon who owns Au levain d'antan in the Montmartre area of Paris. This year there were approximately 174 entries judged by bakers, chefs and various foodies including past winners of the contest. In addition to earning 4000 Euros prize money the baker won the chance to provide bread for a year to French President Nicolas Sarkozy's Elysee Palace. Monmartre's bakers are on a roll these days. Last yea's winner Djibril Bodian, at Le Grenier a Pain, was also located on rue des Abbesses. About all of this tasty French bread one local said "It's our neighborhood secret. Monmartre has a lot more than just Pigalle."
