Bausch's choreographies are a tantalizing mix of rebellious women in sexy dresses, ambiguous men, sitcom audience gags, video projections and socio-cultural allusions with helter-skelter soundtracks.

Pina Bausch is back in Paris this month performing her 80's classic "Bandoneon," No matter that it is over 25 years old Parisian dance audiences can't get enough of this popular German choreographer based in Wuppertal who is credited with almost single handedly inventing the Tanztheater style of dance. In addition to "Bandoneon" she will performing a new piece "Vollmond."

Like many European choreographers of her generation Bausch counts among her influences her time she studied dance in America at the Julliard School in New York (1960) where she was taught by José Limon and Paul Taylor among others.

Bausch's large multi-media productions often involve elaborate sets and eclectic music. Her edgy work with its repetitive movements and short fragments of dialogue and action have become trademarks of her choreographies. "Bandoneon" and "Vollmond" are opportunities to catch up with one of the major influences on modern dance.
"Bandoneon' June 5,6,7,9,10  and "Vollmond," June 16-24, Theatre de la Ville, 2, Pl du Chatelet, 4e
