“Seven years ago nobody in France was talking about ‘Burlesque,’ the fashion was more art performance,” says Juliette Dragon. “When I founded the Cabaret des Filles de Joie, people told me ‘what a strange idea: cabaret is so old fashioned! But the audiences came and grew."

This weekend Dragon and her troupe will celebrate their 7th anniversary with a ‘best of’ revue featuring their two favourite themes: 1880's Moulin Rouge (feathers, corsets, French cancan, typically retro French numbers) and a tribute to the roaring twenties (Bob Fosse style choreography, Lisa Minelli characters, tap dancing, charleston, flappers ...)

“All the team will be there with 25 artists on stage” says Dragon. “Our special guest is Rachel Gardner Smith who played with the cabaret back in the beginning.  And we have also two famous and skilled tap dancers: Jazmin Baret (Australia) and Marion Sandner (Germany).”

The cabaret will also feature some of the students from Juliette Dragon’s Ecole de Filles de Joie which runs every Saturday at the Bellevilloise. The monthly cabarets are leading up to the second annual Paris Burlesque Festival which will take place October 6-10, 2010 with a teaser event on May 29. 2010.

Performances are Saturday April 17 at 7pm and Sunday April 18, 5pm at La Bellevilloise, 19 rue Boyer, Paris 75020 (Metro Gambetta or Melinmontant). http://www.labellevilloise.com Tickets are available on http://www.digitick.com/le-cabaret-des-filles-de-joie-spectacle-la-bellevilloise-paris-17-avril-2010-css4-digitick-pg101-ri538799.html or on the door.
