Gene Kelly's "Singing in the Rain"  tap dance scene in the 1950's film  "American in Paris" is a movie classic. If you have ever fantasized dancing across Pont Alexandre a new tap dance workshop in Paris, led by Australian tap dancer Jazmin Baret  at the Ecole de Filles de Joie, could just be your chance.

It's the second year of French cabaret icon Juliette Dragon's Ecole des Fille de Joie at the Bellevilloise and the afternoon burlesque and jazz classes have extended to weekly morning workshops in oriental dance, clowning, the French Cancan and tap dance.

So what about this tap class? "We'll start with basic steps and techniques to loosen the ankles" says Jazmin. "Steps that people can practise when waiting for the metro for example... Then exercises for the ear and the eye with the must-know vocabulary of a tap dancer. Students will then learn some simple but classic steps and finally participate in a group choreography that is always loads of fun."

The class takes place Saturday May 1st, 11am-1pm and costs 20 Euros. At La Bellevilloise, 19-21 rue Boyer, 75020 Metro Gambetta/ Melinmontant. Info: http://www.jazminbaret.com

Juliette Dragon's Ecole de Filles de Joie runs every Saturday at the Bellevilloise. Information about the other classes: http://www.collectif-surprise-party.com/programme-ecole-des-filles-de-joie.html
