Robert Doisneau, the photgrapher world famous for his picture of Parisian lovers kissing at the Hotel de Ville is featured with an exhibition at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson (until April 18, 2010).  The exhibition of approximately one hundred vintage black and white prints titled  "Robert Doisneau, Du metier a l'oeuvre" includes many of his well known pictures and others rarely seen such as two of his first photos "Les Paves, 1929" and "La Chambre de Gentilly, 1930"

For many people who know and love Dosneau's sweet view of Paris this exhibition provides a more in depth portrait of his work ranging from pictures taken in the late forties of Paris's desolate suburbs to his advertising photographs to pictures taken while he was employed by Renault. Among the gems in this exhibition are pictures from his book "Instanés de Paris, 1955." and a picture "Une Femme Passe, Paris 1948," which was part of the monumental 1951 MOMA exhibition "Five French Photographers."

Although the exhibition doesn't have Doisneau's legendary "Le Baisser de l'Hotel de Ville"even better we see a copy of the original 1950 Life Magazine where the photo appears as part of a story about lovers in Paris. Dosineau with such photo stories, along with other French photographers, helped create the romantic black and white vision of Paris. The yellowing pages of the magazine includes a quote by Doisneau that evokes why so many people love his pictures: "in Paris young lovers kiss wherever..."
