 Barrie Cooke Paintings at the Irish Cultural Center.  A selection of work from a retrospective exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern in 2011. Spanning a career of more than five decades, this exhibition includes large paintings and sculptural work that reveal his fascination with the infinite variety and flux of nature, as well as with the nude figure. Cooke’s palette is rich, at times explosive; colour, he says, can be the closest equivalent you can find to an emotion, a catalyst for beginning a painting. To March 12, 2012. Book events at the American Library: Journalist Pamela Druckerman explores the secret behind France's astonishingly well-behaved children in "Bringing Up Bébé." (February 22, 7:30pm). John Morris, who has been called "the world's most influential photography editor," will talk about his legendary career (February 29, 7:30pm). He worked for the weekly picture magazine Life throughout World War II. As Life's London Picture Editor he was responsible for the coverage of the invasion of France on June 6, 1944 - D-Day, thus editing the historic
photos of Robert Capa. After the war he became successively the Picture Editor of the U.S. monthly Ladies' Home Journal, Executive Editor of Magnum Photos, Assistant Managing Editor for Graphics of The Washington Post and Picture Editor of The New York Times. In 1983 he moved to Paris, as the European correspondent of National Geographic. Now a freelance writer and editor, his primary concern is working for peace. He is the author of the book Get the Picture: A Personal History of Photojournalism.
