From textbooks to college guides, the wonderful world of the Web (www) has something for every student preparing to re-enter the academic year ahead.

SCHOOLS & SCHOLARSHIPS
Petersons.com
Choosing the perfect college today, is as easy as logging on and consulting one of the Web’s numerous school sites. Petersons.com is the on-line version of a leading American guide to higher education, in existence since 1966 with listings of transatlantic colleges and universities, programs, adult and distance-learning facilities, as well as the US’s private establishments. You can look up schools by program or location, or check out overseas internships, and courses abroad. There’s also career guidance, along with lists of summer schools and jobs, and foreign study programs both in the US or overseas. Equally helpful are articles with tips to assist you in making an intelligent pre-selection, and advice about coping when studying abroad, plus financial aid information. College-bound hopefuls take sample tests to prepare for their GMAT or GRE exams.

Freescholarship.com
Founded last year, this site is for families and students concerned about meeting the rising costs of quality education. Freescholarships awards money for school tuition and fees to candidates aged 13 and above, and also grants loans that anyone can win, via on-line draws and auctions. Members accrue “scholars” – or points – by playing games, searching for info on schools and financial aid, and by completing surveys, shopping in on-line stores, or referring others.

Salliemae.com
This is another large “search engine” containing information on scholarships, educational loans, financial aid, repay options and deferments.

In addition to the usual course reading lists for university and professional colleges, they also feature emblem garments, general apparel, supplies, electronic equipment, cool gifts and more.

Studentbookworld.com
Closer to Paris, this site, operating out of the UK, boasts of a search engine listing 1.2 million books, 235,000 of which are in stock. Search for the textbook you need by title, author or category. Next, take a break in the “lounge,” where you can play any of four java games, download free music from MP3 Central, or click on links for free textbooks and resources, including a vast array of dictionaries.

Macmillan-press.co.uk
