Parisians see double with twin performances

Pina Bausch is indisputably the most popular choreographer on the block this month. Her company presents the grande finale event at the Théâtre de la Ville, and a separate show later in the month across-the-square at the rival Châtelet-Théâtre Musical de Paris.
Bausch’s choreographies are a tantalizing mix of rebellious women in sexy dresses, ambiguous men, sitcom audience gags, video projections and socio-cultural allusions with helter-skelter soundtracks.
Following works about Sicily, Hong Kong and Portugal, Bausch’s new piece “Wiesenland Zöld Föld (Terre verte),” running June 7-14 at the Théâtre de la Ville, relates her perception of Hungary, a country still in the throes of post-communism. From June 18-23, the second program, “Danzon,” features Bausch herself dancing a sensually fluid 5-minute solo in semi-darkness.
“Wiesenland Zöld Föld — Terre verte” June 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 at 8:30pm. “Danzon” June 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 at 8:30pm Théâtre de la Ville, 2 pl du Châtelet, 4e, M° Châtelet, RER Châtelet-Les Halles, tel: 01 42 74 22 77. “Viktor”June 27-30 at 8pm, Châtelet-Théâtre Musical de Paris, 1 pl du Châtelet, 1er, M° Châtelet, RER Châtelet-Les Halles, tel: 01 40 28 28 40.
