An instructive exhibition at the Musée de lair et de lespace celebrates the 75th anniversary of Charles Lindberghs Flight from New York to Paris-Le Bourget, in tandem with a temporary thematic display focusing on transatlantic flights between 1919-1930. Fabulous Gardens: Duchêne Style The visionary father and son team, Henri and Achille Duchêne, reinvented classic French landscape design in the 19th and 20th centuries. Appropriately presented in the Bois de Boulogne, this exhibit uses their drawings, personal photographs and project plans to explain the evolution of the Duchêne style. To be seen absolument, to June 24, La Révolution surréaliste constitutes an overview of the surrealist movements most influential paintings, sculptures, graphic art, photography and films. Meanwhile, Daniel Buren well-known for his striped column sculptures at the Palais Royal turns the Pompidou Center into his own, personal installation with exhibits like Les Couleurs: Sculptures. Kawaii! Vacances dété is based on the work of Japanese neo-pop artist Takashi Murakami, while a group show titled Coloriage highlights young, up-and-coming artists from Tokyo (June 26 to Sept 29). In conjuntion with these fun exhibits, Les Soirées Nomades present a series of July to September concerts and performances, notably Fred Frith (June 27) and Meredith Monk (July 22). Afrique Secrète focuses on the mysterious, secretive nature of African cultural objects, while Lart en marche presents the work of Senegalese sculptor Ndary Lo, whose iron Marcheurs, portray people in motion. LOr Des Iles provides a preview of elaborate jewelry and ornaments belonging to the yet to open Quai Branly museum. Mondrian: from 1892 to 1914, A Path Towards Abstraction Before his experimentation in cubism and modernism, Mondrian developed a highly distinctive approach to landscape painting, finally paring down the structure of trees to near abstract forms. Though his primary-hued, geometric compositions such as Broadway Boogie-Woogie are better known this exhibition re-establishes the importance of the artists roots in the 19th century pictorial tradition (until July 14). Like Mondrian, Frantisek Kupka is famous for his abstract painting. However, from 1890 to 1914, he worked and lived in Paris as a book illustrator, satirist and pastel artist. Méliès, Magic and Cinema Although perhaps not as well known as the Lumière brothers, Georges Meliès was likewise one of French cinemas great pioneers. At the beginning of the 20th century, he was already producing special effects and optical illusions that prefigure those in Spielberg and Lucas films. Besides screenings of his work, this exhibition includes drawings, costumes, posters and other memorabilia.
