Mark Rothko. A retrospective of this abstract American painter from the "New York School" highlights his signature large scale works which skew perspectives of space, color and light. Kokoschka, 1906-1931. A contemporary of Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka's watercolors and drawings evoke a similar style in the fragile way his subjects hang on the paper in contorted positions. La Belle Époque. "Idylle à Oklahoma: une offre d'emploi." Claude Duparfait's drama based on the last chapter of Kafka's unfinished novel, "Amerika" ("  Le Disparu"), about a young German man immigrating to the United States at the turn of the last century in search of the "American Dream." "Un' Altra Italia" The history of Italian cinema is shown in this retrospective of 150 films which testify that  La Vie est Belle. Highlights include: Roberto Rossellini's 1975 feature   "Le Messie,"Feb 5, 8:30pm; Bernardo Bertolucci's 1981 film  "La Tragédie d'un homme ridicule,"Feb 11, 7pm; Federico Fellini's 1986 tribute to "Ginger and Fred," Feb 19 at 9:30pm; Paolo and Vittorio Taviani's 1969 classic "Under the Sign of Scorpio," Feb 21 at 7pm. "Public Housing." Frederick Wiseman's 1997 documentary film on the Ida B. Wells housing projects in Chicago focuses on all of the problems poisoning this struggling subculture, from racism to unemployment, illiteracy to drugs, as well as what roles the residents, police and society play in trying to solve them. Satellit Café. Over the past seven years, this jammin' Oberkampf juke joint has become the hub of the "world music scene" in Paris. It's where locals and local musicians go for good acoustics and groups like Adjabel, Nawal Mlanao and Trio Argentino.
