Dan Ghenacia is one of this capitals most acclaimed DJs. With residences at the Rex Club and the Batofar, Dan has established a solid reputation and a sound that he describes as deep, freaky house. The 29-year old is regularly invited to play in clubs accross Europe, but when hes not in Jerusalem, Lisbon or Glasgow, Paris is where his heart is.
What do you think of the current club climate in Paris?
The local scene is very strong: a Parisian promoter doesnt necessarily have to book a big-name DJ to make a night work. The clubbers are musically educated, so there are no superstar DJs in Paris and thats what makes the scene what it is today.
How has it changed over the years?
Ten years ago, you could count the clubs playing electronic music on one hand. Now almost everyones involved and thats helped the music evolve. Nowadays, the essential thing is to know whats going on and where.
What makes a good night out in Paris?
The role of the promoter can determine everything. There are those who simply want to fill their pockets and those who are looking to push things forward. The former are often the professionals with massive PR budgets, the others are less professional but their creativity is whats important.
Current projects?
Im putting together a compilation called Track List, which consists of eight exclusive unmixed tracks. Then Ill be releasing a new single, No Way You Can Sleep by Digital Tongue, my project with Phil Weeks.
